Royal Airforce Red Arrows - Protecting our interests and building relationships globally
We were lucky to arrive as guests of the Red Arrows on a dry day at RAF Waddington.

We helped fund the commemorative stained glass window at Scampton church, to honour and remember all those personnel who have been a part of that community whilst serving at RAF Scampton. The airbase was more recently known as the home of the Red Arrows.

Our visit was delayed by the pandemic and then the decommissioning of RAF Scampton and their move to a new home just south of Lincoln at RAF Waddington.

Our thanks to Squadron Leader, Tom Bould and the team for their kind and generous hospitality. We wish them a safe and successful display season.

It was a great pleasure to join Sidney and Tricia MacKay with the Ambassador at the American Embassy, London. The occasion marked Sid’s retirement as Chair at the Police Roll of Honour Trust. He will continue to contribute as a Trustee.

The Ambassador was joined by the Commissioner of the metropolis, who paid tribute to Sid’s service and his outstanding contribution to policing and the Police Roll of Honour Trust.

Hearing Star has long been a supporter of the Trust and we look forward to continuing that support.

Help fund the RAF Commemorative Stained Glass Window

The planned decommissioning of RAF Scampton, Lincolnshire, brings to an end an impressive historical 100 year legacy as the home of the Dambusters and the RAF Red Arrows display team. St John the Baptist Church, Scampton has had a close relationship with RAF Scampton through the dark days of two world wars, the cold war and peacetime. The graves are an important reminder of the very close bond that has existed between the local community and those who served their country.

A suggestion was put forward, that a stained glass window might be commissioned to mark the 100 year (1918 to 2018) relationship between RAF Scampton and Scampton Church. The window is to depict a Lancaster, Vulcan and Red Arrows. Many members began their working lives in the armed forces and Hearing Star are supporting this project by sponsoring a part of the window with a donation of £500 to build Red 1 of the Red Arrows display team. Please look online for further details www.scamptonchurch.org/raf-stained-glass-window.

Police Roll of Honour Trust - Grant of Royal Charter
Picture
In recognition of the Trust's work and it's status as the official source of the United Kingdom's Police Roll of Honour, the Trust was honoured to be granted a Royal Charter by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The Charter was affixed with the Great Seal and became a legal document and thus incorporated the Trust in March 2018.

We were delighted to attend the celebration of the award of Royal Charter and share in the recognition the Royal Charter brings. As long-term supporters of the charity, we admire the efforts of the team under the leadership of Chair Sidney MacKay.

"Tolerance, Respect and Consensus" - Mike Duggan retires as General Secretary

Picture
Pictured left to right: Mike Duggan, CSPA and Kevin Howlett, Director, Hearing Star
In October 2018 Mike Duggan gave a passionate speech on the importance of "Tolerance, Respect and Consensus" in British politics. In his closing message at the 2018 AGM, he spoke of the need to remember these core values that should remain the hallmarks of democracy for Britain.

His comments marked the end of a ten year journey as General Secretary of the Civil Service Pensioners' Alliance (CSPA).

Kevin Howlett said of Mike Duggan;

"We have only known MIke for a couple of years, yet we feel a palpable sense of loss on his retirement. Although we will miss his him, we're also pleased to know that in addition to being an inspirational leader, he is also a music buff with great plans to finally sort out his vast music collection.

We wish him well."
